Thumbs down Cuil = Instant Fail

http://www.dailytech.com/Former+Goog...ticle12510.htm

A former Google employee has started their own search engine called Cuil (Pronounced "cool" apparently).

This bit I found particularly amusing...

"Cuil is currently backed by $33 million in venture capital"

Having tried the site, I can tell you it is 33 Million bucks of pure and unadulterated Instant Fail. I have never known a search engine which fails so epically. Go try it, you'll be amazed!

Cuil, I hear by grant you the instantfail.com Instant Fail award!

Default So much hype...

So much hype for something that seems like a showcase of a product which I believe should rather be targeted at companies interested in the technology. As a consumer I say FAIL at such a poor demo. Bigger companies interested in a private search engine solution may say WIN however. Their strategy isn't exactly clear to me though.

Too much PR gaming. Moving on.

Even if the site is a technology showcase... doesn't it betray itself by being useless? Any search engine can format their search results to have pictures and columns.

None of the big players need to acquire any new technology as they already have tried and tested systems which work. Perhaps Cuil may be bough out by someone like Microsoft who are always fighting to get deeper into the search market, but for that to happen Cuil would have to be a success... and to be honest I think hell is going to freeze over before that happens.
